The brief · fictional example

A walk with room to sniff.

A quieter start to an ordinary walk, with room to pause.

This sample household wanted a more comfortable lead at the start of a walk. The first conversation considers the route, equipment, distractions and the dog’s comfort before selecting a short practice section.

Trainer’s sample note

“The doorway and first few steps need a quieter start. Pause, reward a comfortable lead and make room for a sniff break. Try the same short stretch before adding a busier route.”

The learning record

A clear next step.

01

Starting point

Describe the doorway, first stretch and moments when the lead tightens; check comfort and equipment.

02

First practice

Choose a quiet short stretch. Reward a comfortable lead, pause and offer a sniff break.

03

Review

Note where the lead tightened and whether space, pace or sniffing changed the walk.

04

Adjust

Shorten the route or return to the quieter stretch; add a distraction only when suitable.

Sample process only. No measured or guaranteed outcome.
